enjoy a calm home even with kids, here’s how

Hey Mama!

Does it feel impossible to have a calm (and peaceful) home with kids?

I get it… I used to feel like motherhood meant I needed to endure the chaos.

Over the last year, I’ve been making small shifts towards creating a home that I actually enjoy being in.

Check out last week’s podcast about my 10 Habits for a Calm + Peaceful Home – even with kids (you can watch it below):

These little shifts have helped me to re-center myself… and find more capacity for the chaos.

I used to use my kids as an excuse as to why I couldn’t……. (fill in the blank).

THEY were stopping me from having a clean house.

THEY were why I was in fight/flight.

THEY were why I couldn’t do the inner work needed to be happy.

BLAMING OUR KIDS… IS THE PROBLEM.

It’s not their fault that i’m chronically overwhelmed.

Or that I can’t prioritize what needs to be done.

And it’s definitely NOT their fault as to why I’m not happy.

It’s me. I’m the problem.

Maybe this discovery was so freeing because I could actually control me.

It was the first time that I took accountability for myself.. and decided that I was going to meet my needs because they were important.

At first, this was painful.

I’d start a workout.. and my toddler would start screaming hold me.

I’d making myself lunch… and my kids would beg to try some.

I’d go for a walk and someone would have a meltdown.

But I kept going. I kept looking for 30 seconds to meet one of my needs.

Honestly, this goal felt simple.. and easy.

After making this mindset shift, I found I was grateful to..

– get 2 sets of squats in

– actually eat something for lunch

– enjoy 5 minutes of a walk, listening to the birds.

I began learning to meet my needs in the middle of the day… with my kids present.

  • Sit on the floor and read a page in a book (while the kiddos played)
  • Sitting at the table, savoring that first sip of hot chocolate (while the kiddos colored)
  • Taking a walk and pointing all the beauty I saw (while my kids marveled over creation)

Not long after I began focusing on the micro-moments, I noticed that I was enjoying these things for longer stretches.

I actually finished the whole workout… I ate my entire lunch…. and we enjoyed a 30 minute walk.

It felt like my kids were joining my world, instead of me always joining theirs.

You can enjoy this life too ❤️
