Hey Mama!!
When I sat down to write this email, I began thinking about how I felt as a first time mom.
I hated how reactive I felt, internally.
Early on in my motherhood journey, I didn’t express the anger or rage…. I just stuffed it down.
But, after my second… I felt it internally… which often lead to me losing it.
In last week’s podcast episode, I shared How to be less EMOTIONALLY REACTIVE as a mom (which you can watch below):

I used to feel so much shame and guilt about how I showed up as a mom. I honestly hated myself.
This is something that I hear so many moms in my practice share too…. they hate who they are as a mom.
Not only are we fighting with unrealistic expectations thanks to social media… but then we have the internal battle of our own emotional dysregulation.
It’s like one feeds into the other.
A couple weeks ago, I was talking to a client who was STUCK in this constant cycle of rage -> shame.
She was “beating herself up” mentally in hopes of “teaching herself a lesson.”
Do you know what about that last sentence caught my attention??
She wanted to “teach herself a lesson.”
Naturally, I began asking questions around this phrase.
Do you want to guess where it came from?
It was what her dad would say when we was punishing her.
Instantly she began to cry, when she realized that this tool… that was taught to her as a child.. was still her go-to tool as an adult.
So, then I asked how this tool was serving her?
She laughed a little.. and realized that it wasn’t.
I’m sharing this story with you because I see this rage->shame cycle with almost every one of my clients.
And nearly every single time it is a tool learned from childhood…. that isn’t helping us to become a better parent… it’s just keeping us STUCK.
My hope is that this helps you to get curious about the tools that might be keeping you stuck….. I believe this is part of how we stop hating ourselves.
