Hey Mama!
Playing with my kids was painfully hard and yet I desperately wanted to connect with them.
Can you relate?
Last week on the podcast, I shared 8 ways you can Connect with Your Toddler, even if you hate play (you can watch it below):
Does it feel like your toddler’s cup is always empty?
Do they struggle to play independently?
Do you feel like they are extra needy? Clingy?
Are they not sleeping through the night?
I totally get it. My kids do these things too… and when I go through my reflection process I always see that they are needing connection.
I think one of my biggest takeaways from parenting is that our child’s behavior is just a symptom of an unmet need.
This understanding has saved me from reacting with frustration, anger, and rage.
It has given me the ability to show up with curiosity, empathy, and love…. even when the behavior is VERY triggering.
Here are some common unmet needs in toddlers:
- To be Seen
- To be Heard
- Autonomy
- Adventure
- Choice
- Connection
- Participation
- Structure
Hope you have a good rest of your week!
-Alexis
