modern moms get this wrong.

Hey Mama!!

Do you find yourself CRAVING life before the digital age?

I often wish I could go back in time.. and yet I constantly rely on technology (hence my youtube channel hahah.)

This idea of Old Fashioned Motherhood has become pretty popular on my page, so I’ve been diving into different areas that feel…. LOST.

Last week, I shared 9 things that I believe Modern Moms are getting wrong.(which you can watch below):

It’s a deep desire of mine to continue striving for innate motherhood.

That’s really what this episode will help you to do. Maybe think about how you can reorient yourself to become a little more “old fashioned”

BTW… this has nothing to do with homemaking 😂

A couple weeks ago, I did a deep dive here on Motherly Intuition, so to build on that, I want to talk more about Attunement.

Let’s start with the definition according to Dr. Daniel J. Siegel:

Attunement: how we connect deeply with another person and allow them to ‘feel felt.’

The first time I read this, I instantly became emotional. I’m not sure that I had ever experienced this kind of depth in a relationship.

Which makes sense as to why it’s been such a learning curve for me to do with my own children.

I believe that I will be learning and implementing attunement for the rest of my life. But, when I look back at where I started… WOW I’ve come so far.

I know what you are wondering… How do I begin using attunement with my children??

#1 Tune Back into your OWN Body.

I was disconnected from myself. Well to be honest, I thought I was very intune with my body… but boy oh boy… was I wrong.

The ultimate discomfort was sitting with my own thoughts in complete silence…

Gosh… there was a lot of uncomfortable and ridiculous thoughts going on….. and I didn’t want to acknowledge that was true.

Ways to Tune Back In: Somatic Exercises, Daily Deep Breathing, Calming Tools, Journaling, sitting in silence

#2 Learn Feelings + Needs

This isn’t going to surprise you, but getting comfortable and literate in feelings and needs will help you tremendously. Opening up and sharing your inner world is very vulnerable and a beautiful place to begin… so we can begin noticing our child’s feelings and needs.

Tip: Study and Download the list from Non-Violent Communication!

#3 Get comfortable Holding Space

In the beginning, attunement looked a lot like holding space. I had to be okay with the fact that I couldn’t fix something… and all that was needed was my full presence.

Tip: Begin by Journaling with this prompt – What will my child’s experience be if I’m fully present? What would this have been like for me as a child?

Anyhow, I hope this email has encouraged you…. and Happy Parenting
