my biggest regret of motherhood.

Hey Mama!!

For so long, I carried guilt because the relationship between my oldest and I was severed.

I deeply regret sleep training my daughter.

Last week, I shared 5 of my top regrets (which you can watch below):

Looking back, I was doing what I believed was best for her.

I was following what the experts said… what my pediatrician instructed.

I believed the sales page that reassured me that I wouldn’t damage my child by sleep training… and in the desperation for sleep I believed them.

It never felt right to hear her cry. My intuition told me to just pick her up. But, the sleep program assured me that after 14 nights, things would get better.

And they did.

We all *seemed* happy and thriving on the outside.

But, there will little red flags that told otherwise.

  • She would cry when I went to pick her up from Grandmas.
  • She would look to grandma for comfort.
  • She would push away my affection.
  • She didn’t like to be hugged or kissed.

I bought into the belief that it was a stage.. a phase… and that this too shall pass.

But every time… it hurt my heart a little more to see us disconnect.

Funny story, but I went to Parent Coaching School to learn tools on how to change my daughter’s behavior…

and instead it lead me to realize that I was the only one who needed tools.

But, we are living proof that re-connection CAN happen.

I know what you are thinking… so, how did you do it?!

It took consistency, compassion, and curiosity from me.

We had to re-build trust, safety, and security.. with consistency, communication, and empathy.

I had to soften.. so she could soften.

I needed to start with small things.. and eventually we worked our way up to bigger things.

Now….. she runs in the door to screaming “mama I missed you!!!” with hugs and kisses that follow.

Every now again, she gets scared at night and she snuggles in bed with me.

Each morning is met with smiles and laughter as we talk about the day ahead.

It is posible.

With that being said, there is always hope….. Happy Parenting ❤️
